West Coast SCADaddle Weekend a Success!

September 22, 2023

2023 West Coast Survivors and Angel Families

Our 7th annual West Coast 5k SCADaddle Weekend on September 8-9, 2023 was a great success!! It had all the ingredients of a wonderful SCADaddle – an opportunity for survivors, supporters, and families who lost a loved one to SCAD (SCAD Angels) to meet and support each other. The weekend was a lot of fun and raised thousands of dollars for research!

The weekend started out on Friday evening with a SCAD Reunion social and dinner for SCAD survivors, their supporters, and SCAD Angel families. Thank you Dr. Patricia Best from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program for joining us and presenting Mayo’s latest findings. Her presentation was live streamed with participants watching from as far away as Australia. After the presentation, Dr. Best answered questions from both the in-person and online audiences. We appreciate Nick D’Orazio, SCAD Angel family, for live streaming the presentation.

The chip-timed 5k took place Sept. 9 at Crown Point Park on Mission Bay, San Diego. CA. Awards were presented to the top overall male and female finishers. Medals/recognition were given to top three male and female finishers in a variety of age categories. Afterwards, participants relaxed and enjoyed an Acai Bowl made on the spot, watched a silk aerial demonstration and shopped, our SCAD store and vendor booths.

Thank you Ellen Robin and Gina Hernandez for spending countless hours organizing this year's 5k and SCAD Reunion social/dinner!

A shout out to Donna Sugimoto and Terri Bell for a successful online silent auction, which raised over $3000 more for research as well. We appreciated all who donated items to the silent auction too.

Thank you to our sponsors especially Pinkert Family Foundation and JM Flooring.

Registration is open for two additional SCADaddles – MI (9/23) and PA (9/30).
