Annual SCADaddle© for Research

Our National chip-timed run/walk on June 8, 2019 at Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL was a great success, raising thousands of dollars for research!

Prior to the start of the 5K, the names of those who did not survive (SCAD Angels) and whose family/friends attended were read followed by a moment of silence. Participants then lined both sides of the trail before the start line and recognized the survivors who were present.

All runners/walkers were timed. Gift certificates from Fleet Feet Sports were awarded to Jack O’Brien, overall 1st place male finisher and Rachel Shoemaker, overall 1st place female finisher. Medals were given to 2nd & 3rd place male/female overall & to top three males/females in various age groups.

Following the 5K, there was a silent auction, SCAD store items, face painting and refreshments. A complimentary lunch was provided by Buona – Naperville.

A SCAD Reunion for survivors, their supporters and SCAD Angel families took place on Friday evening, June 7, at the Embassy Suites, Naperville. The evening started with a social, followed by dinner and a presentation by Dr. Sharonne Hayes, Dr. Marysia Tweet and Dr. Timothy Olson (genetics) from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program, Rochester, MN. Mayo Clinic presented SCAD Research, Inc. with a beautiful bowl as a thank you for our support. As of 2018, we have donated a total of $800,000 to Mayo Clinic since we started in 2011. You can watch the Mayo Clinic presentation on our YouTube channel.

The evening concluded with a video tribute to Bob Alico, our founder/president who started SCAD Research Inc., when his wife did not survive and the cardiologist had few answers about SCAD.
