Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection

“Christmas Miracle”

February 18, 2018

My name is Monica. I am 31 years old and I had a massive heart attack December 19th 2017. The attack came eight weeks after having my first baby, and a long stressful year.

One day while shoveling snow I began having shortness of breath. I felt like I had been breathing cold air for hours in my chest. Arms went numb, I broke out in sweats, felt like I was going to throw up. I went inside took off some cloths. Couldn’t throw up, couldn’t breath. So I called ems.

They took me to emergency, some of those symptoms went away a bit so I wasn’t terribly worried. Until they said I needed someone to come be with me because I was going to have a catheter fed to my heart because I was having a heart attack! After a day of complications I now have 4 stents in my heart. This was due to my left main artery dissecting, and caused the blood flow to my heart to stop.

I am going day to day with my new medications and trying to get stronger with cardiac rehab. I am very thankful to be alive for my family and baby!

I would like others to know that no matter your great health or age you can have an artery tare and or heart attack too, and to listen to your body.
