California 5K SCADaddle a Great Success!

September 17, 2016

There were many highlights of our 2nd 5K SCADaddle weekend September 9-10 in Carlsbad, CA. The weekend started out on Friday evening with a Meet & Greet for survivors and their supporters. Those attending enjoyed meeting each other, Sharonne Hayes MD and Jeanne Theis PhD from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program, and Bob Alico, founder and president of SCAD Research, Inc.

About 275 participants including 35 survivors ran/walked on Saturday. Participants took part in a warm up led by the Oceanside Jazzercise Center. Matt Baylow, meteorologist from CBS News 8 San Diego emceed the 5K and reminded everyone to wear sunscreen even though it was cloudy! As they crossed the finish line, participants received a medal, enjoyed a silent auction, various vendor booths and a complimentary lunch.

At 1:00 Dr. Hayes and Dr. Theis shared Mayo Clinic’s latest research findings at the Discovery Center. Their presentation was streamed live and recorded. https://www.facebook.com/ScadResearchInc/app/142371818162/.

The weekend was capped by a Survivor Reunion Dinner where survivors and their supporters enjoyed a cash bar social, appetizers, dinner and of course dessert. At the dinner, survivors were asked to share something positive about their SCAD experience.
