SCADsters at SCADaddle

5k Highlights

Thanks to the hard work of many, especially survivor and chair Tracee Murphy, our 1st annual Southwest Florida 5K SCADaddle© for Research on April 14 in Sarasota, FL was very successful. Due to the generosity of individuals, organizations and businesses, the SCADaddle raised about $25,000 for research!

The festivities began on Friday evening with a Meet & Greet for SCAD survivors. The committee got to work early on Saturday setting up the 5K for an 8am start.

Congratulations to top overall male finisher, Scott Fournier and top overall female finisher, Christine Hiler! Click here and scroll down to find our event with links to participants’ times and some pictures.

Along with activities for the kids, including a Fun Run, there was a Silent Auction and SCAD merchandise for sale, which contributed to the success.

Beach Cruise and Launch

2018 Sarasota SCADaddle fun

Following the SCADaddle©, survivors and their families relaxed on the beautiful Sarasota Bay aboard The Marina Jack II! They enjoyed a 2 hour narrated cruise with lunch while seeing local landmarks and celebrity homes. It was a wonderful bonding experience for our survivors!

Thank You to the Southwest FL 5K Planning Committee & Volunteers
5K SCADaddle weekends take a great deal of work and planning. We would like to especially thank Tracee Murphy first for saying “yes” to the idea of organizing a SCADaddle in Sarasota FL and doing so in a very short timeframe. Her perseverance paid off!

A big thank you to Grant Castilow and Anne Westman, key committee members helping with both planning and execution!

A special thank you to Carol Zich for sharing her expertise and guiding Tracee through the 5K planning process. Carol flew to Sarasota to help Tracee for the weekend. In addition to many other SCAD Research, Inc. volunteer responsibilities, Carol organizes the 5K in Illinois.
