5K Highlights

Thanks to the hard work of many, our 2nd Lehigh Valley 5K SCADaddle for Research on June 10 in Bethlehem, PA, was very successful. Over 175 participants registered this year including 19 survivors as well as those who walked in memory of Meagan Edelman Duarte. Due to the generosity of individuals and businesses, over $35,000 was raised!

The festivities began on Friday evening with a Meet & Greet at the Courtyard Marriott. The committee got to work early on Saturday setting up the 5K in time for 7:30 am check-ins and walk-in registrations.

Uniquely designed wooden medals were awarded to top male/female finishers overall and in various age categories. Click for a list of runners and times. Congratulations to top overall male finisher, Michael Legath, and top overall female finisher, Kristen Flanagan!

Team awards were also presented. A high five goes to a survivor, Robyn Harris, who traveled all the way from New Hampshire to our SCAD events and whose team had donation commitments totaling $6800 as of race day, earning them the Top Fundraiser Award! Congratulations to the Meagan’s Memories for bringing out some speedy runners, earning them the Fastest Team Award! Last and certainly not least, we honor the team who dressed for success, earning the Team Spirit Award. Thank you to Ellen Robin and Claudia Brown for showing us what SCAD spirit looks like on Team “SCAD is Bad”!

To raise additional funds at this year’s Lehigh Valley SCAD events, a one-of-a-kind painting was created and donated by local artist Kenneth Herr. The painting, which was inspired by survivor Stephanie George’s explanation to him of what it means to be a survivor, raised over $500! We are truly grateful for this generous and thoughtful contribution.

Gratitude Gala

One of the many highlights of the weekend was the Gratitude Gala, a cocktail reception at the Blue Grillhouse on Saturday evening. This fundraiser was open to community supporters in addition to families and friends impacted by SCAD. We were honored by the many baskets, gift cards, and goodies donated by families and businesses, which allowed us to include a silent auction and raffles as part of the fun.

With over 80 people in attendance at the Gala, SCAD survivors and families impacted by SCAD had an opportunity to connect, to share gratitude for the weekend and for each other and to raise awareness in the community about what SCAD is.
