2015 National 5k SCADaddle

Saturday, May 2, 2015

Our 2015 fourth annual national chip-timed 5K took place on an USATF Certified crushed limestone course at beautiful Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL.

The 2015 5K set new records including:

Over 320 registered runners and walkers 56 survivors from across the US, Canada and Sweden
A male survivor attended for the first time Largest number of financial sponsors
Silent auction with 43 entries Perfect weather!

SCAD 5k fundraiser
Participants included survivors and their supporters, family members and friends of those who did not survive as well as area runners.

Prior to the start of the 5K, Jennifer Brink from Mayo Clinic Development Department presented SCAD Research with a Major Benefactor Plaque to recognize our $100,000 donation given to Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program in October, 2014.

After the 5K, participants enjoyed refreshments provided by local merchants while waiting for the top three overall male/female finishers and male/female winners by age category to be announced.

SCADaddle for Research sponsors were secured to help defray costs and raise additional money. SCADaddle organizers obtained food and items for the silent auction from merchants to add to the festivities.

Other survivors and SCAD Research supporters walked virtually. Some virtual survivors organized local walks in solidarity with the national run/walk.

Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program Presentation

A highpoint for survivors and those impacted by SCAD was the research presentation which followed at Edward-Elmhurst Healthcenter, Naperville, IL. This year attendees enjoyed hearing about the latest research findings from the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) SCAD Research Programs cardiologists Dr. Sharonne Hayes, SCAD research team lead, Dr. Patricia Best, interventional cardiologist and Co-Investigator, along with Dr. Marysia Tweet, SCAD Researcher. There was time for questions after the presentation.
