Join us at our 7th annual West Coast 5K SCADaddle for Research to raise awareness and funds for much needed research on the #1 cause of heart attacks in women under age 50 – spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD).

Unlike the traditional heart attack, a SCAD happens when a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more arteries to the heart. This tear blocks blood flow to the heart causing a heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms and sometimes sudden death. Although less common, SCAD can impact men too.

The SCADaddle© timed Run/Walk will take place on the east side of Crown Point Park on Mission Bay starting at 9:00 am. Enjoy the course along the bay on the bay side walkway.

Afterwards, relax and enjoy an Acai Bowl made on the spot to your liking, a silk aerial demonstration, our SCAD store and vendor booths. The 5K is fun for the whole family while raising funds for much needed research.

Early Packet Pick Up

• There will also be packet pick up from 4:00-6:00pm at the Marina Village Conference Center (1936 Quivira Way , San Diego, CA).

Special for Survivors, Supporters & Others Impacted by SCAD

In addition to the 5K, we have a special Friday evening planned on Sept. 8 for SCAD Survivors, their supporters, and families of loved ones who did not survive (our SCAD Angels). This is an opportunity to meet new and reconnect with old friends.

We are excited and honored that Dr. Patricia Best will be joining us. Dr. Best is an interventional cardiologist and researcher at Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program, Rochester,MN . She will present their latest research findings on Friday evening and answer questions as time permits.

The SCAD Social & Dinner takes place at the Marina Village Conference Center (1936 Quivira Way) San Diego, CA.

• 4:00 – 6:00 pm The event will begin with early 5K packet pickup and our meet & greet. A cash only bar will be available throughout the evening. Shop our SCAD store, Cards with Cause and SOLSISS Jewelry. Meet others impacted by SCAD.

  Note: You do not need to be registered for the social/reunion to pick up your packet

• 6:00 – 9:00pm – Dinner and Presentation – Welcoming remarks, dinner and Dr. Best’s presentation on Mayo Clinic’s latest research findings. Afterwards, Dr. Best will answer questions from the audience as time permits.

Enjoy a delicious taco dinner by Jesse’s Rico Tacos Catering complete with all of the fixings:

• Carne Asada, Pollo Asado, Pork Carnitas
• Fresh Tortillas
• Homemade Beans
• Grilled jalapenos, and Grilled Nopales
• Homemade Guacamole
• Homemade Salsas (Mild to Super Spicy), Radishes, Cilantro w/onions, and Limes and Cheese
• Grilled jalapenos wrapped in grilled cheese and mini corn grilled cheese quesadillas

Dessert, wine, beer, soft drinks and water are included.

The cost for dinner is $40/$20 (ages 3-12). Reservations are due no later than September 1, 2023.

Covid Protocol

In order to enhance the safety of everyone, the SCAD Research Inc., Board of Directors recommends that everyone tests before attending the social reunion and dinner. If you test positive, please do not attend the social reunion/dinner. Masks are optional but encouraged for all attendees.

Overnight Accommodations

A block of hotel rooms has been set aside at the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Airport, Liberty Station, September 8-10, 2023.

The Courtyard is along the water, near SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Stone Brewery, downtown and the 5K location. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance, including the popular Liberty Public Market. The hotel is adjacent to a beautiful 46-acre park and has a vast array of activities.

Rooms start at $219.00 per night plus tax. Parking is $5 per night (discounted from $19 per night)

• Before 1:00PM call the front desk for instructions 619-221-1900. After 1:00PM take a cab, UBER, LYFT to hotel. Present your receipt to the front desk and the hotel will reimburse you up to $20.

If you are unable to join us in person at our West Coast SCADaddle, there is an option to register to participate virtually. There is no charge to register as a virtual participants. Virtual participants can set up a personal fundraising page or a team page to raise funds.
