It’s our 4th annual 5K fun run/walk to raise money for important research on the #1 cause of heart attacks in women under age 50 – spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD)

SCAD is a cause of a heart attack not associated with the typical risk factors of heart disease. It strikes without warning when a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more coronary arteries, blocking blood flow to the heart. In addition to being the #1 cause of heart attacks in women under age 50, SCAD is also the #1 cause of heart attacks in women who are pregnant and new moms. Although less common, SCAD can affect men too. SCAD can reoccur and it can be fatal.

The 5K will take place at beautiful Battle Creek Regional Park, Maplewood, MN. Participants are invited to a casual social event in the park after the 5K. Enjoy refreshments, comradery, take a chance or two on a beautiful quilt and shop the SCAD Store and other vendors.

Register by April 14 to guarantee this year’s 5K t-shirt.

When you register, your fundraising page will automatically be set up. Please also consider forming a team. We hope you will update your fundraising page and/or team page with your story and a picture. Please share the link with family, friends and co-workers, post on social media and ask for their support. The more money raised; the more research will be funded.

Special Events for Survivors, Supporters & Others Impacted by SCAD

Join other SCAD survivors, their supporters, Angel families and Dr. Sharonne Hayes from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program for a night to meet, eat and learn on Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Pavilion (new location) at the Holiday Inn & Suites – Lake Elmo! Adults $40, Kids $20 includes dinner/kid’s meal. SCAD Store items will be there to shop while enjoying our CASH only bar! SCAD updates will also be shared along with time to introduce yourself and share your story!

We have a larger area this year so feel free to invite those who have supported you along the way! Let’s make this a night of reunion and celebration!

Itinerary:

• 5:00 pm: Check In/Packet Pick Up
  • Meet and Greet
  • Cash only bar available throughout the evening
  • Shop the SCAD Store
• 6:00 pm: Dinner with welcoming remarks, introductions and an update from Mayo Clinic SCAD Research Program!

Dinner

• Chicken Roma, sautéed green beans & garlic mashed potatoes
• Stuffed Bell Peppers (gluten free/vegetarian option), sautéed green beans & garlic mashed potatoes
• Mac n Cheese, French fries and a fruit cup (children ages 2-10 yr.)

COVID Protocol for SCAD Reunion
In order to enhance the safety of everyone, the SCAD Research Inc., Board of Directors recommends that everyone tests before attending the social reunion and dinner. If you test positive, please do not attend the social reunion/dinner. Masks are optional but encouraged for all attendees.

For those who wish to stay overnight, a block of rooms have been reserved at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Lake Elmo

Hotel rooms are available at a discounted rate at the Holiday Inn & Suites with code SCAD. Since there is only a small block of rooms available until April 17, please reserve early.

Room Rates:

• King Bed: $139 +tax per night
• Double Queen: $149 + tax per night
