Southwest Florida/Sarasota 5k SCADaddle for Research
5K SCADaddle for Research!
April 14, 2018
Quick Links to 5K Weekend
It’s our 1st annual timed run/walk to raise money for much needed research on the #1 cause of heart attacks in women under age 50 – spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD).
SCAD is a cause of a heart attack not associated with the typical risk factors of heart disease. It strikes without warning when a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more coronary arteries, blocking blood flow to the heart. SCAD is also the #1 cause of heart attacks in women who are pregnant and new moms. Although less common, SCAD can affect men too. SCAD can recur and it can be fatal.
Location and Registration
2050 Adams Lane
Start time: 8:00 am
Note: Start and finish are in Payne Park on the School Avenue side of the park.
The 5K timed run/walk will take place on a two lap course through and around the park on a varied terrain of crushed cinder, concrete sidewalk and grass. Refreshments will be served at the end of the 5K.
There will also be a Kids Fun Run immediately following the finish of the 5K for all interested! The Kids Fun Run is on a ½ or 1 mile crushed cinder path in the park.

Unable to Attend and Want to Support
If you are unable to join us in person at our Southwest Florida/Sarasota 5K or one of our other 5Ks, you can be with us in “spirit” by registering as a virtual participant. Virtual participants have joined us on treadmills, walking or running in their neighborhoods, or just reaching out to friends and family while raising money for SCAD Research! Participating virtually gives you the flexibility to choose a different date or time if you prefer.
When you register as a virtual participant, you will have an opportunity to set up a personal fundraising page to send to family/friends/co-workers asking them to support you. There is no cost to participate virtually or to form a virtual team. Virtual participants do not receive a 5K t-shirt. 5K t-shirts can be purchase at our SCAD Store beginning early April.
And, of course, you can Donate directly to SCAD Research, Inc.
5K Sponsorship Opportunities
Sponsorship of the 5K by businesses, organizations and families is key to raising additional money for research on the causes and best treatment options for SCAD. We offer a variety of sponsorship opportunities. If you know of a potential sponsor and would like assistance in securing them, please contact Tracee Murphy, SW Florida/Sarasota 5K Organizer at firstname.lastname@example.org
