It’s our third annual West Coast 5K Fun Run/Walk to raise money for Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) research and we hope you can join us!

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is the #1 cause of a heart attack in women under age 50, pregnant women and new moms. SCAD occurs more often in women than men. SCAD is a type of a heart attack not associated with the typical risk factors of heart disease such as high blood pressure or plaque. Unlike the typical heart attack most people know about, SCAD is relatively uncommon and often impacts younger, otherwise healthy individuals. It happens when a coronary artery tears, which can cause a heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms and sudden death.

Research is needed to answer fundamental questions such as what causes SCAD and how can SCAD be prevented.

Location

Our fun run/walk will take place at beautiful Carlsbad, California. We will:

  • Start at Aqua Hedioinda Lagoon (4200 Garfield Street, Carlsbad) North Shore Hubbs Trail at 9:00 am
  • End at Discovery Center (1580 Cannon Road, Carlsbad)
    • Shuttles will be available to take you back to your vehicle.

There will be vendors, refreshments, a silent auction and fun for all at the end of the 5K!

When you register as a virtual participant, you will have an opportunity to set up a personal fundraising page to send to family/friends/co-workers asking them to support you. There is no cost to be a virtual participant. While virtual participants do not receive a t-shirt, you can order one through our SCAD Store.

Virtual Participation Registration

And, of course, you can donate directly to SCAD Research, Inc.

A very special thank you to Kaiser Permanente Cardiology Department – San Diego for partnering with us.
